You do not need any musical experience to participate in Music Therapy. We tailor sessions according to your unique needs, and emphasise accessibility to people of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds.
-
Each session will be tailored to your specific needs and goals at that time. After identifying what you would like to gain from Music Therapy, you will be guided to explore and process them using a variety of approaches. Together, we will reflect on the insights gained through these experiences and work to integrate them in ways that support your daily life.
You might choose to participate in:
. Singing
. Playing instruments
. Songwriting
. Mindful listening
. Song discussion & lyric analysis
. Playlist creation
. Music & video recording
. Guided relaxation

. Music & movement experiences
. Psycho-education and skill development

Music therapy uses musical techniques to address non-musical objectives, such as enhancing emotional, physical, and psychosocial well-being. In contrast, music lessons focus on teaching specific musical skills. While a music teacher may be trained in musical performance and education, a music therapist is a qualified allied health professional, akin to an occupational therapist, psychologist, or physiotherapist.

If you are self-managed or plan-managed, you can claim sessions from Solnata Music Therapy under your NDIS care plan.
To include music therapy in your NDIS plan, use the category Capacity Building - Improved Daily Living.
-
Participation in Music Therapy sessions is entirely optional, and you are under no obligation to continue if you feel it is not the right fit for you. We understand that every individual has unique needs, and the best approach varies from person to person. While we hope you find music therapy both beneficial and enjoyable, the decision is ultimately yours.
If you feel that your therapist at Solnata isn’t the right match, we are more than happy to refer you to another skilled Music Therapist. We recognise that the therapist-client relationship is personal, and our top priority is always your well-being.
